UOC obtains Certification of Compliance with Regulation 522-06 on Safety and Health at Work
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic — The UOC (Ophthalmology and Cataract Unit) received Certification of Compliance with Regulation 522-06 on Occupational Safety and Health, awarded by the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Labor through the General Directorate of Industrial Hygiene and Safety (DGHSI), at a ceremony led by President Luis Abinader. UOC was invited along with hundreds of other companies and institutions from across the country.
Regulation 522-06 establishes national standards for occupational risk prevention and requires certified institutions to identify, assess, and control workplace risks, implement prevention programs, train their staff, and guarantee safe working conditions for all employees. During the event, Ministry of Labor officials reiterated that occupational risk prevention must be considered an ethical and human commitment to the life, health, and dignity of workers.
For UOC, this achievement is the result of a rigorous internal process that began in December 2024, when the institution formed its Safety Committee and its Emergency Response Team: a group of 17 staff members who voluntarily underwent training in risk prevention and emergency response, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
Furthermore, the UOC Safety Committee has organized and implemented various emergency drills to test the institution's response to the different emergency codes defined in its protocols, including participation in the National Earthquake Evacuation Drill held on November 5, 2025, under the coordination of the Emergency Operations Center (COE).
“The Occupational Health and Safety certification reflects our commitment to doing things right, taking care of our people, and continuing to strengthen our organizational culture. It is an achievement for everyone, and we continue to demonstrate that together we go further,” stated Dr. Servando Santana Rodríguez, General Director of UOC.
With this certification, UOC reaffirms that caring for its people is an essential part of the quality of care it provides to its patients. The institution adds this recognition to other recent milestones, such as its ACHC international accreditation, as it strives to consolidate its position as a leader in quality and safety standards in the Dominican Republic's healthcare sector.
